Leader: UNIBO

Partners involved

CEU, ICS-ULISBOA, Sciences Po, UCSC-Transcrime, IGA, ACREC, KLC, UDE

WP7 focuses on understanding cross-border political corruption in the digital age, complementing the analysis done in earlier work packages by incorporating a transnational perspective. It investigates how digital media, AI, and emerging technologies facilitate new forms of political corruption that span across borders. Specifically, Task 7.1 examines the role of digital media in corrupt practices, using qualitative case studies to identify key actors and interactions, with a focus on digital platforms like instant messaging apps and social media. Task 7.2 explores how AI and technologies like blockchain enable new corruption methods, such as deepfakes or algorithmic manipulation, and evaluates the risks these pose. Task 7.3 assesses the links between corporate performance and public-private relations in Europe, analyzing how political ties of large corporations influence their financial success. Lastly, Task 7.4 traces the corrupting influence of foreign actors on public spending, particularly in critical infrastructures, providing an in-depth analysis of corruption risks associated with countries like China and Russia. Together, these tasks offer a comprehensive view of how modern technology reshapes the landscape of cross-border political corruption.
